Diary Inserts 2014?

So if you are at your local store buying your 2014 diary inserts.  Why not buy a 2013 one as well...

Why buy a diary insert in August?  Well if they are reduced in price why not pick up a couple of ones that you haven't used before and try some different layouts.

They might not be on display so you might have to ask for the 2013 ones. Ask the sales assistant if they have any 2013 still, you might get luck and be given a size or layout they don't sell many of for a nominal cost or free even.

I got lucky a couple of years ago and got an A5 Business page per day layout insert for £1, normal retail price was about £20, but I used it for the second half of the year to try it out. It is the one pictured below.

As they say if you are buying some thing already, there is no harm in asking is there.....

  1. I have been thinking about inserts for 2014. I use an A5 for my main diary and I wanted to try a week on 2 pages but I need it to be lined and horizontal. Filofax don't appear to have any that style. Does anyone know of another supplier - I really don't want to have to print them myself.

    1. hi Morag, not horizontal, but WHSmith (own brand) have a week to view, lined with appts and a small amount of space for notes/reminders each day.

  2. I have just been told that filofax are no longer doing the 2-pages to a day Time Management refill, though there is something on their website that looks suspiciously like that very insert. I will be disappointed if Filofax drops this part of the Time Management range, as it is the most professional refill they have. This just reinforces my opinion that Filofax is still moving towards being a fashion accessory rather than a professional tool.
Luckily I can get 2 pages to a day as a refill from IPPS, which is printed on better quality paper and is cheaper than the Filofax refill, but I still find Filofax's attitude disappointing.

    1. Wow, I never heard of IPPS before but what a great resource. Do you know if they supply A5 size pages as well as Personal?

    2. Hi Morag, they only do A5 as far as I know. It was set up as a professional time management system and has, unlike Filofax, stayed true to its origins.

    4. Oh my goodness, IPPS looks like it has some excellent inserts. I have never heard of them before, but what a great selection.

  3. I got two year's inserts with my Filofax and I use the previous one as additional scrap/note paper. I'm still debating about what I want to use for next year because I am liking the look of the DayTimer lined inserts.

  4. I'm always curious as to what people do if they want to add a diary entry 12 months in advance, but are unable to do so because their chosen inserts for the following year aren't available until well into the current year.

Perhaps an enlightened approach would be to package inserts into months, rather than years. Smoother sales throughout the year, less need to discount "old" inserts, better options for the consumer and, above all, an end to the ridiculous waste of paper in slow selling binders.

    1. In the US, DayTimer and FranklinCovey sell inserts to start on any quarter, which is a better approach, I think. They both come with forward planning calendars for future years as standard.

  5. I've had current year's diary inserts pulled out of the back room at the shop but they've never offered me any sort of discount.

  6. I've been looking for the business pages for some time now - does anyone know where I can get them?

  7. I have been using Dayrunner week on two pages insert. It has the lined rectangular space for each day with a smaller space for Sat. and Sun. I have also used the same format with the times printed on it. I decided to buy an insert that starts in July 2013 with the same layout but has more space for Sat. and Sun. (big rectangle with a line down the middle). It is larger than the personal size insert so I thought about taking it to a copy store to ask them to trim it. However, I don't think there is enough extra space that can be trimmed. Regardless the big box for each day (with or without lines, with or without times) is just that. If you write your appointments, tasks, people to contact, etc. in one space then nothing really stands out. You can divide the space in two and write appointments on the left and tasks/people to contact on the right or whatever configuration you decide. You still have to write everything in one space. Then I saw a Wo2 pages layout that I really like but it is not available to buy. I thought about trying to design it myself and print it but it seems like a lot of work.

  8. Because I use a personal-sized Filofax, and because I have to write everything down before I forget them entirely, I have observed that I cannot live on less than two pages per day, which can make the planner a bit thick. But I do make my own inserts, so there is an added benefit of being able to choose thin enough paper and still keep the format that I want.

  9. I started with my 2014 inserts today. I picked up a Debden Mo2P (Personal size) and love the thickness of the lined paper. I can't wait for the matching Wo2P to arrive in the post!
